Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance
Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance is located inside Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge and takes travelers on a mission with the Resistance, which goes awry when you're taken captive by Kylo Ren and the First Order.
To experience this attraction, you're going to need to get to Disneyland as close to park opening as possible in order to get a boarding pass. There is not a traditional standby line for Rise of the Resistance, and once boarding passes are distributed for the day, no more are added.
Even with the little bit of extra work of the boarding pass system, the attraction is well worth the wait! Walt Disney Imagineering Portfolio Creative Executive Scott Trowbridge told POPSUGAR, "Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance is the most innovative and immersive attraction we've ever undertaken at Walt Disney Imagineering. It's unlike anything we've ever done before. We believe it's going to put our guests right in the middle of a climatic Star Wars story." And the ride definitely delivers on that promise.
Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance is open now.
Disney California Adventure Food and Wine Festival
One of Disneyland's biggest foodie events is returning for 2020. The Disney California Adventure Food and Wine Festival will run from February 28 through April 21, 2020. The event will feature more than a dozen Festival Marketplaces. The menus at each marketplace will feature new and returning favorites, along with specialty wines and craft beer. Guests attending the event can also enjoy live entertainment, cooking demonstrations, and more.
Magic Happens Parade
Disneyland Park is getting a new daytime parade in 2020 called Magic Happens. The all-new parade features vibrant floats with favorite Disney characters from movies such as Moana, Cinderella, The Princess and the Frog, Frozen, and Coco. The parade will have a new song and score cocomposed by Todrick Hall.
Magic Happens is set to debut on February 28, 2020.
Tenaya Stone Spa
The new Tenaya Stone Spa (Tenaya can mean "to dream" in some indigenous cultures) will soon be opening at Disney's Grand Californian Hotel and Spa near GCH Craftsman Bar and the hotel's entrance to Disney California Adventure park. The full-service spa will offer a wide variety of treatments, facials, massages, and salon services.
You can experience the Tenaya Stone Spa starting Spring 2020.
Disney California Adventure is getting a massive new land right in the middle of the park. Avengers Campus is part of a Disney Parks global story that features Marvel super heroes doing some recruiting for new heroes. Other parks that are part of the global story include a Marvel-themed land coming to Disneyland Paris and the already open Iron Man Experience and Ant-Man and the Wasp: Nano Battle at Hong Kong Disneyland.
The land will be opening in two phases, much like Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge did in 2019 and 2020. Phase one of Avengers Campus, which features a new Spider-Man attraction, dining location, character meet and greets, and more opens Summer 2020.
An All-New Spider-Man Attraction
As part of the phase one opening of the Avengers Campus at Disney California Adventure, a new unnamed Spider-Man attraction will be inviting guests into an open house at the Worldwide Engineering Brigade, or WEB.
During your tour, you'll be able to take a test drive on the "Web Slinger" vehicle, where you'll be able to sling and shoot webs just like Spider-Man. The attraction will give guests the opportunity to help out Spider-Man by collecting Spider-Bots that have gotten a little out of hand.
This attraction opens Summer 2020 inside Avengers Campus.
Encountering Marvel Heroes
Inside Avengers Campus, you'll be able to meet some of your favorite Marvel characters, including the Guardians of the Galaxy, Doctor Strange, Ant-Man, the Wasp, Iron Man, Black Widow, and more. There will also be live entertainment throughout the land, so if you don't get the opportunity to meet your favorite heroes, you can catch them in a unique show that highlights their powers.
Heroic encounters start Summer 2020.
Pym Test Kitchen
A new dining offering is coming to Avengers Campus. The Pym Test Kitchen is themed after Ant-Man and the Wasp stories. The restaurant will highlight how Pym Technologies is using the latest innovations to grow and shrink food. Not much is known about the menu here, so you're going to want to stay tuned for more announcements on the food offerings.
Pym Test Kitchen opens Summer 2020.
Before slinging webs with Spider-Man or encountering Doctor Strange, you're going to want stop in at WEB Suppliers. Not much is known about this new location, but we do know that it's going to be the spot to snag some awesome merchandise and gear from the Worldwide Engineering Brigade.
WEB Suppliers opens Summer 2020.
Disneyland After Dark
Disneyland After Dark is a separate ticketed event that occurs on select nights at Disneyland Park and Disney California Adventure. Each night has a different theme, which coincides with merchandise, food and beverage, ride layovers, entertainment, and more. Each event is four hours long, but you can get into Disneyland three hours before the event starts — meaning that if it starts at 7:00 pm, you can get in with your ticket at 4:00 pm. These events do tend to sell out, so you're going to want to buy your ticket early. Announced dates and themes include:
Disneyland After Dark: Sweethearts' Nite: February 12 or 13, 2020 at Disneyland Park
Disneyland After Dark: Pixae Nite: March 5, 2020 at Disney California Adventure Park
Disneyland After Dark: Villains Nite: April 30, 2020 at Disney California Adventure Park
Disneyland After Dark: Star Wars Nite: August 27, 2020 at Disneyland Park
Halloween Time at Disneyland Resort
The Disneyland Resort really goes all out for their Halloween celebrations. Both Disneyland Park and Disney California Adventure attractions get layovers, there's endless amounts of seasonal food and drink available, characters are out in their Halloween costumes, and the parks are decorated with festive pumpkins.
One big draw from 2019 that's coming back in 2020 is Oogie Boogie Bash - A Disney Halloween Party at Disney California Adventure. This separately ticketed event is fun for the whole family. If you're planning on attending, you're going to want to get your tickets early since almost every night sold out last year.
Halloween Time at Disneyland Resort runs from September through October 2020.
Holidays at Disneyland Resort
Just like during the Halloween Season, Disneyland has a go big or go home mentality when it comes to the holidays. Both parks, all three Disneyland resorts, and the Downtown Disney District get in on the festive fun. Ride layovers happen at both Disneyland and Disney California Adventure, and seasonal food and drink options are everywhere, including a fan favorite – handmade candy canes!
The holidays at Disneyland run from November 2020 through January 2021.
A New Ending to Snow White's Scary Adventures
Disneyland's only ride-through princess attraction will be updated with new magic inside and out in 2020. Walt Disney Imagineering is reimagining how the classic tale of Snow White lives happily ever after, and guests will be invited to follow along with her story.
This year is bringing a major refurbishment to one of Disneyland's original attractions, Snow White's Scary Adventures. The ride will still have a familiar feel while adding in new story details and entirely new scenes — including Snow White waking up from her deep sleep. The attraction will end with the princess being reunited with her forest animal friends and castle in the background. Walt Disney Imagineering is going to be adding in state-of-the-art audio and visual technology throughout the entire attraction, along with new music, laser projections, and a new animation system. The exterior of the attraction is getting a lift as well to complement the nearby Sleeping Beauty Castle.
A reopening date has not been announced for the attraction.
Asian Street Eats
A new dining location has popped up at the Downtown Disney District. Asian Street Eats is a takeout window concept by Chef Hung Huynh. The menu here is filled with mixed bowls, wraps, pot stickers, teas, and sodas all with a distinct Asian flair. This is a great spot to grab lunch outside of the parks on busy days or a quick snack before you head back to your hotel for the evening.
Asian Street Eats is now open!
Soarin' Over California
A fan-favorite attraction at Disney California Adventure is Soarin' Around the World, but during special times of the year the park switches back to the original take on the attraction: Soarin' Over California. Guests ride on a virtual hang glider to see iconic California locations from high above, including the Golden Gate Bridge and Disneyland Park.
Guests going to the Disneyland Resort from February 28 through April 21, 2020 will be able to experience the original Soarin' Over California for a limited-time engagement.
New FastPass and MaxPass Offerings
Two attractions at the Disneyland Resort are getting FastPass and MaxPass availability in 2020. Monsters, Inc. Mike and Sully to the Rescue! at Disney California Adventure and Autopia at Disneyland Park will be added to the already extensive lineup of attractions with FastPass and MaxPass availability.
However, no official launch date has been announced for this addition to FastPass.
New Treats Inside Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge
Disney's food and beverage team is constantly at work creating new dishes for lands and restaurants across the Disneyland Resort. Three new items have appeared this year inside the recently opened Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge.
Pictured above is the The Toydaria Swirl, which can be found at the Milk Stand. This twist on Green Milk swirls in savory chili-lime seasoning and mango jelly for a truly unique treat.
Other new dishes include the Black Spire Hot Chocolate, which is topped with shimmering purple whipped cream from Docking Bay 7 Food and Cargo and Ronto Roasters. The Galma Garlic Puffed Cheese Chips are flavored with parmesean and white cheddar cheeses and can be found at Jat Kaa's Coolers located throughout the land.
New Seasonal Food and Drink Offerings
No matter what time of year you and your family plan to go to Disneyland the amount of seasonal food and drink offerings is huge. We particularly love Halloween's seasonal food, but honestly any time of year is great to find hidden gems and new favorites at Disneyland. To find the most recent food and drink debuts, ask a Cast Member or search through the menus on the Disneyland app.
